Usar cordas de boa qualidade em seu ukulele pode fazer uma grande diferença, principalmente pela forma como elas soam.
Ukuleles novos muitas vezes vêm com cordas de baixa qualidade, o que pode fazer com que, ao tocar as primeiras vezes, você sinta que não era bem o que imaginava, mas essa impressão cai por terra quando o encordoamento é trocado por um de melhor qualidade.
Comprar cordas de ukulele não é tão simples. Duas coisas você deve levar em consideração: o tamanho do ukulele e qual afinação você ira utilizá-lo.
É muito importante verificar para qual tamanho de ukulele as cordas foram feitas.

Correias e alças
Tocar ukulele em pé pode ser um pouco mais complicado do que se pensa, principalmente para quem está começando, se você estiver tocando uma música mais complicada, aí a dificuldade aumenta muito.
Por isso muitas pessoas optam em usar uma correia, assim como no violão.
Mas, originalmente não se toca ukulele com correia, se segura apoiando o ante braço da mão que palheta ou dedilha e com a outra mão, os acordes facilitam a sustentação no braço do instrumento.
Desta forma, não temos (com raríssimas exceções) botão para abotoarmos uma correia, mas é possível instalá-lo com a orientação de um luthier.
Opinião pessoal, não aconselho essa prática, porém, o youtube está recheado de vídeos onde as pessoas tocam com correia e elas também são vendidas aos montes pelo Ebay, portanto é conveniente falarmos a respeito.
Existe uma alternativa menos agressiva ao instrumento, que são as alças. Elas dispensam o botão, evitando assim que o instrumento seja perfurado.
Elas são encaixadas na boca do ukulele passando por trás do corpo e dando a volta no pescoço do ukulelista.

Os quatro principais tamanhos de ukuleles são: soprano, concerto, tenor e barítono.
SOPRANO
O ukulele soprano é o mais popular, considerado o tamanho original, é o que tem o som mais característico de ukuele e, por ser o menor, é o mais agudo.
Para quem tem mãos grandes, alguns acordes podem parecer um pouco desconfortáveis, já para quem tem mãos pequenas (principalmente as mulheres), ele já se torna bem confortável e, por requerer menos flexibilidade dos dedos, sua didática acaba sendo facilitada.
Por ter a menor caixa, o som/volume do soprano é um pouco mais baixo.

CONCERTOS E TENORES
Estes dois tamanhos foram criados nos anos 20' para atender às demandas dos ukulelistas com dificuldades de tocar o soprano pelo seu tamanho reduzido.
Para quem está aprendendo, esses tamanhos podem ser uma opção mais versátil, por não serem de um tamanho intermediário e pelo som de cada casa soar melhor, são bons para treinar escalas e solos, assim como para acompanhar vocais e, até mesmo tocar com uma banda.para solos, que acompanha os vocais, ou tocar em uma banda.
Os concertos geralmente são mais baratos que os tenores.

BARÍTONO
O barítono é, devido ao seu tamanho maior, o ukulele que produz o som mais grave e alto, bem parecido com o som de um violão de nylon. É o ukulele menos popular, talvez pelo fato de não ter um som tão característico de ukulele e ter uma afinação diferente dos outros tamanhos.

Afinando seu Uke
Essa é uma dúvida muito comum quando se quer comprar um Ukulele, no meu caso, comprei meu primeiro Uke sem saber muita coisa, fui aprendendo ao longo do tempo. O fato de eu já tocar alguns instrumentos de corda, facilitou muito, mas se você não toca nenhum outro instrumento, não se preocupe, vamos tentar passar o passo a passo, caso tenha dúvida, entre em contato!
Vamos começar pela afinação standard que é gCEA, ou seja, sol-DÓ-MI-LÁ (o sol ou o "g" é escrito em letras minúsculas por ser uma corda mais fina acima das mais grossas).
Um afinador digital facilitará muito, basta afinar seu Uke com as notas acima em 4ª oitava. Por isso é comum também ver a afinação sendo representada assim g4-C4-E4-A4.
Se você não tem um afinador digital, basta usar um diapasão ou um site de afinação.
